How to extract the saxophone from a song
- Upload the song. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. The first time, you sign in with Google.
- Press Extract the saxophone. The price shows on the button before it runs: 1 credit for every minute of music. A new account starts with 5 credits, enough for one song up to 5 minutes. Most jobs take 1 to 3 minutes.
- Listen and download. You get two reels: Saxophone and Without the saxophone. Click one to hear only that file. Each downloads on its own as an MP3 at 320 kbps.
Why people want the sax alone
A sax solo is one of the most copied things in music: the break in a ballad, the riff in a pop chorus, the long line in a jazz standard. Players learning one need to hear every note without drums on top. The Saxophone file gives them that, and Without the saxophone gives a backing track so they can play the solo themselves.
Sax also turns up in funk, soul and R&B horn sections and in film scenes with a late-night feel. Sample makers use isolated phrases, and video editors remove the sax when it clashes with the story.
One file for all saxes
The model does not sort the saxophone family. Soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax all go to the same Saxophone file. If a section plays a line in four saxes, you get the whole line.
Sax or trombone or trumpet?
In a horn section the sax sits next to the trumpet and trombone, and a mixed line can be confusing. If the horn part is what you want, try the Brass Extractor as well, or the Trumpet Extractor and Trombone Extractor one at a time. Saxophone belongs to the woodwinds, and the Wind Instrument Extractor takes all horns together.
Turn the solo into notes
Put the Saxophone file into Audio to MIDI to get a draft of the melody. The conversion runs in your browser, and bends or growls will need cleaning by hand.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract a saxophone?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits. Failed jobs are refunded.
Will a horn section leak into the sax file?
It can. Trumpets and trombones playing the same line may bleed in, as can sax-like synths.
Can I use the sax file in a remix or sample?
The file is yours to download, but the song it comes from may have rights. Check them before you release anything.
What formats can I upload?
MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 10 minutes. Outputs are MP3 at 320 kbps.
