Whistling in songs
A whistled hook is a cheerful, easy sound. It turns up in folk songs, in indie tracks, in old Western film scores and in many a hook that people remember. A tin whistle is a different thing, a small flute used in Irish music, but its sound is thin and high in a similar way, so both can be what a listener calls a whistle.
A singer who wants to learn the melody can use the Whistle file to hear the pitch alone. A producer can lift a whistled hook for a remix. A video maker can use Without the whistle when a track needs to calm down.
Whistle, flute or bird
High whistling near a piccolo or a flute can blur together, and a synth lead can also sound like a whistle. The Flute Extractor is the next place to check. For pipes and harmonica, which sit around Celtic and folk songs, see the Bagpipes Extractor and the Harmonica Extractor. Other blown instruments are on the Woodwind Extractor.
Audience whistles are different
If what you hear is a crowd whistling at a concert, that is crowd noise rather than a melody. The Remove Crowd Noise page is the right tool for that.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract a whistle?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits. Failed jobs are refunded.
Is whistling by a person the same as a tin whistle?
Both are high, thin, pitched sounds. Check the Whistle file by ear to see what was picked up.
Can I turn the whistle into MIDI?
A clear whistled melody converts well in Audio to MIDI. It runs in your browser, so the file is not uploaded.
