How to split a song into every instrument

  1. Upload the song. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. You sign in with Google the first time.
  2. Press Split the song. The price is 1 credit for every minute of music, shown on the button before anything runs. New accounts start with 5 credits, enough for one song up to 5 minutes. Most songs take 1 to 3 minutes, longer in a busy queue.
  3. See what came back. The song is checked for more than 50 kinds of instrument. Only the ones that actually have sound appear as rows, so a four-piece rock band gives you a short list, and an orchestral piece gives you a long one. Switch rows on or off, listen, and download each as an MP3 at 320 kbps. If processing fails, your credits are returned.

When to pick this page

You do not know what is in the song. Maybe you hear something in the background and cannot name it. A banjo or a harmonica shows up as its own row if it is there, and you can listen to it alone.

You want one specific instrument. Run the song once, then download the one row you care about, such as the cello or the sax.

You are studying an arrangement. Arrangers and students can listen to which instruments come in where, and which ones double each other.

You want parts a normal splitter does not give. Most stem tools stop at vocals, drums, bass and "other". This one goes further down the list.

Good to know

Hundreds of instruments exist and the list stops at the ones the model was trained on. Close relatives get confused: violin and viola, trumpet and trombone, marimba and glockenspiel. A row with a tiny trace of sound can appear when the model is not sure. In a dense mix, a quiet instrument may come back thin or partly mixed into a similar one. If you only need a single instrument, the dedicated pages, such as the Piano Extractor or the Guitar Remover, are simpler. For fewer parts and a quicker result, use the 4-Stem Splitter. For vocals, drums and the best quality, use the 7-Stem Splitter. For the drum kit piece by piece, use the Drum Kit Splitter. The home page is the six-part version.

FAQ

Why are some instruments missing from my results?

Instruments with no sound in the song are hidden. If one is in the song but missing, it may be too quiet or too buried for the model to separate.

How much does it cost?

1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before you start. Failed runs are refunded.

Can I download only some of the rows?

Yes. Each row downloads on its own as an MP3 at 320 kbps.

Will it find every instrument?

It tries to. Results depend on the song, and busy or live recordings can leave traces in the wrong row.
