How to separate singers
- Upload the track. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. You sign in with Google the first time.
- Press Separate the singers. The button shows the price before it runs: 1 credit for every minute. New accounts start with 5 credits. Most tracks take 1 to 3 minutes.
- Listen to both reels. You get Voice 1 and Voice 2. Click one to hear it alone, then download each as an MP3 at 320 kbps. If it fails, the credits come back.
Which voice is which?
The model splits the voices into two groups, but it does not know names. Voice 1 is not always the lead and Voice 2 is not always the second singer. Play both and decide for yourself. If Voice 1 turns out to be the singer you wanted, great. If not, the other file is probably the one.
Where it helps
Duets and call-and-response songs. Two singers trade lines, and you want each in a file of their own to learn a part or to sample one voice.
Rap with a sung hook. A rapper and a singer share a track and you want to hear the hook without the verse.
Group recordings. A recording where several people sing together can be pulled apart into two groups to study the blend.
Remix work. Put one voice through a different effect from the other.
What to expect
Separating singers is harder than removing music. The voices share the same frequencies, so the more alike they sound, the more the split blurs. Two singers with clearly different voices do best. Two people singing the same line in unison do not split well. Reverb and heavy vocal effects make it harder still.
Other pages may suit your song better: Separate Male and Female Vocals for a mixed-gender duet, Isolate the Main Vocal to pull the loudest singer out, or Separate Lead and Backing Vocals for a lead with harmonies.
FAQ
How many singers can it split?
It returns two files, Voice 1 and Voice 2. With more than two singers, some will be grouped together.
How much does it cost?
1 credit for every minute of the track, shown on the button. New accounts get 5 credits.
Should I upload the full song or only the vocals?
Either can work. A cleaner vocal-only file usually gives a cleaner split, and you can make one with the Acapella Extractor.
What do I download?
Voice 1 and Voice 2, each as a separate MP3 at 320 kbps.
