How to remove vocals from a song
- Add your song. Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC file, up to 10 minutes long. It appears on the left reel of the tape deck.
- Press the orange key. The big key reads "Remove the vocals", and it shows what this song will cost before anything runs. Sign in with Google when it asks. Most songs take one to three minutes, a bit longer when many people are waiting.
- Listen, then download. Two reels appear on the right: Instrumental and Vocals only. Click a reel to hear just that one, with a small waveform beside it showing where the sound is. Download either as an MP3 at 320 kbps.
The Instrumental reel is your song with the singing taken out. The Vocals only reel is the part that was removed, which is handy for checking how much of the voice came off.
What "remove lyrics from a song" really means
Many people search for ways to remove lyrics from a song, and what they want is the music without the singing. Lyrics are just the words, and no tool can take words out of a recording while leaving the voice behind. What does work is removing the whole vocal performance. You end up with the band, and the words are gone because the singer is gone.
The same goes for "remove the singer" and "remove the vocal". One voice or several, lead or harmony, they all count as vocals to the model.
Which songs work best
The model is BS Roformer, a strong separation model, and it handles most studio recordings well. Results depend on how the song was made.
- Clean studio pop, rock and hip-hop usually come out well. The voice sits in the middle and has its own space in the mix.
- Dense, loud mixes keep more traces. A wall of distorted guitars can leave a faint ghost of the voice in the instrumental.
- Heavy reverb on the voice tends to leave an echo tail behind. If the echo is the problem, try the Reverb Remover on the vocals file.
- Live recordings are the hardest, because the singer's voice leaks into every microphone on stage.
Expect a good result, not a perfect one. If you hear a trace of the voice, it is usually in the quiet gaps between phrases.
All vocals come out, backing vocals included
This vocal remover takes out everything sung, including harmonies and background voices. If you only want to drop the lead singer and keep the choir behind them, use Separate Lead and Backing Vocals instead. It splits the two so you can choose.
Tips for a cleaner result
Upload the best quality file you have. A WAV or a high-bitrate MP3 gives the model more to work with than a small, heavily compressed copy. If the instrumental still has a faint echo of the voice, listen to the Vocals only reel: it shows what the model took, and what it left behind is what you hear in the instrumental.
Vocal remover online, no software to install
There is nothing to install: open the page, sign in with Google and upload. The page works in your web browser, but the splitting does not run on your computer: your song is uploaded to our storage and split in the cloud. The song and its parts are saved in your account for 30 days, then deleted, and removing a song deletes its files straight away. We don't use your songs to train AI models. Only upload music you have the right to use.
Where to go next
- Want the singing for a remix or a sample? Use the Acapella Extractor.
- Need a backing track for a cover or a video? Try the Instrumental Maker.
- Singing at home? The Karaoke Maker is written for that.
- Want drums, bass or guitar out too? The stem splitter takes a song apart into six tracks.
FAQ
Is this vocal remover free?
You can try it free: sign in with Google and you get 5 credits, no card needed, which covers one song up to 5 minutes. There is no free plan beyond that, and no watermark or preview limit on what you download.
How much does it cost to remove vocals from a song?
It costs 1 credit per minute of song, and the button shows the exact price before you start. A 4-minute song is 4 credits, about $0.30 with the smallest pack ($7.49 for 100 credits). Credits never expire, and if a job fails, the credits go back to you.
Will every trace of the voice be gone?
Not always. On most studio recordings the instrumental sounds clean, but tightly mixed songs, live recordings and songs with a lot of reverb on the voice can leave faint traces. The Vocals only reel shows you what was taken out.
Can I remove vocals from a song and keep the backing vocals?
Not with this page, because it removes all vocals. Use Separate Lead and Backing Vocals to take out only the lead.
What file types can I upload, and what do I get back?
You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. Each output downloads separately as an MP3 at 320 kbps.
Is this an AI vocal remover?
Yes. It uses a trained neural network model that has learned what voices and instruments sound like, rather than the old trick of cancelling the center of the stereo image. That is why it works on songs where the voice is not simply panned to the middle.
Can I use the instrumental on YouTube or sell it?
Removing vocals does not change who owns the song. For your own recordings, yes. For someone else's song, you need permission from the rights holder before you publish anything made from it.
