How to remove crowd noise
- Upload the recording. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. You sign in with Google the first time.
- Press Remove the crowd noise. The button shows the price before it runs: 1 credit for every minute. New accounts start with 5 credits, enough for 5 minutes. Most files take 1 to 3 minutes.
- Listen, then download. You get Without the crowd and Crowd only. Click a reel to hear one alone. Each downloads as an MP3 at 320 kbps. If it fails, your credits are returned.
What it removes
The model is made for music recordings with an audience in them. It targets the sounds a crowd makes: applause, clapping, whistling, cheering, laughter and general crowd noise. Without the crowd is the music with those sounds taken down. Crowd only is the other side, which is useful if you want to keep the applause.
It is not a general noise reducer. Hiss, hum, traffic or a noisy room are not what it was trained on. If the problem is noise on a voice, see the Vocal Noise Remover.
Who uses it
Fans and tapers who have a live bootleg and want the music to stand out. Musicians who recorded a gig on a phone and want a cleaner version to listen back to. Video editors who need the music from a concert clip without the cheering over the intro. Sound designers who collect clean applause and crowd reactions to use in other projects, which is what the Crowd only file is good for.
What works well, and what leaves traces
Applause and clapping between songs is the easiest case. Crowd noise that sits over a loud band is harder, and sing-along sections where the audience is part of the music may be partly removed with it. A close microphone on the stage gives a much better result than a recording from the back of a hall. Some crowd sound can remain, and the music may sound a little thinner where the two overlapped.
To pull out just the singer from the same recording, use the Acapella Extractor.
