How to separate male and female vocals
- Upload the song. A full song works: the voices are separated straight from the mix. For the cleanest split, you can first take the vocals out with the Acapella Extractor and upload that Vocals file instead.
- Press Separate male and female voices. The button shows the price: 1 credit for every minute. New accounts start with 5 credits, enough for 5 minutes. Most files take 1 to 3 minutes.
- Listen, then download. Click a reel to hear Male vocals or Female vocals alone. Each downloads as an MP3 at 320 kbps. Failed jobs are refunded.
Who this is for
Duet singers want to practise their own part against the other singer. Producers and remixers need the two voices on separate channels so they can treat them differently, for example with different effects or panning. Podcast and video editors sometimes get a single mixed track with a man and a woman talking over each other and want to tidy it up. Teachers play a call-and-response song and mute one side.
What works well
The model sorts voices by how they sound, so a clear difference in pitch and tone helps. A deep male voice and a high female voice are the easy case. Results get shakier when:
- a tenor and an alto sing in overlapping ranges,
- both people sing the same note together, so the voices overlap in the same frequencies,
- the vocal still has music or heavy effects on it,
- there is choir or a stack of backing singers instead of one man and one woman.
When the voices overlap, some of one singer can end up in the other file. Listen to both before you use them.
For more than two singers or two voices of the same type, try Separate Singers. For a lead and a backing stack, use Separate Lead and Backing Vocals.
FAQ
Can I upload a full song?
Yes. The voices are separated straight from the mix. A vocals-only file gives a cleaner split, so if the music is loud, run the song through the Acapella Extractor first and upload its Vocals file.
How much does it cost?
1 credit for every minute, shown on the button before you start. New accounts get 5 credits.
Will the two voices be perfectly separate?
No. Where the singers overlap on the same pitch, a little of one can leak into the other.
What formats can I use?
Upload MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 10 minutes. You download Male vocals and Female vocals as separate 320 kbps MP3 files.
