How to split dialogue, music and effects

  1. Upload an audio file. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. If you have a video, export its audio track first and upload that.
  2. Press Split dialogue, music and effects. The price is on the button before it runs: 1 credit per minute of audio. New accounts get 5 credits after signing in with Google.
  3. Wait a few minutes. It usually takes 1 to 3 minutes, longer when many people are using it.
  4. Listen and download. You get three files: Dialogue, Music and Sound effects. Click any reel to hear it alone, and download each as a 320 kbps MP3.

If a job fails, your credits are refunded.

Why split a soundtrack three ways

Film and TV sound is usually built from three layers: what people say, the music under it and the sound effects, such as footsteps, doors and explosions. Editors call these stems. When you only have the finished mix, the layers are stuck together. This tool pulls them apart again using a model made for cinematic audio.

Who it is for

  • Video editors and YouTubers who want to remove the music from a clip and keep the voices, or the other way around.
  • Dubbing and localization work, where you need the dialogue gone and the music and effects kept as a bed for a new voice track.
  • Film students studying how a scene is mixed.
  • Podcasters and documentary makers cleaning up archive clips with music underneath.
  • Remixers who want an effects layer for sound design.

What to expect

Clear speech over a steady music bed separates best. The model is trained on film-style mixes, so a movie scene, a trailer or a vlog with background music suit it well.

Some limits are normal. Speech over loud music or heavy effects can leave traces in the other files. A voice that is also sung can end up in the music or the dialogue. Dialogue with strong room echo may leave some reverb behind. Listen to all three files before you commit to an edit.

If you only need vocals from a song, use the Vocal Remover or the Acapella Extractor. If you want a whole song split into instruments, see the Stem Splitter.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

1 credit per minute of audio. The price shows on the button before you start, and new accounts get 5 credits. Failed jobs are refunded.

Can I upload a video file?

No, upload an audio file. Export the soundtrack from your video editor as MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, then upload that.

Will the dialogue be completely clean?

Often it is good, but not always. Loud music, effects that overlap speech and echoey rooms can leave some residue in the other files.

What do I get back?

Three 320 kbps MP3 files: Dialogue, Music and Sound effects. You can play them individually before you download.
