Updated October 27, 2026. Unmix Studio is our own tool, and it is one of the six below. To keep this fair, every price and limit here was read from each tool's own website on the date above, and each tool gets a "where it wins" section, including the places where it beats us. We have not run a side-by-side listening test yet; when we do, the results will be added to this page.
There is no single best vocal remover. The right one depends on four things: whether you need it free, how many songs you split, whether you want more than vocals and music, and which file format you need back. Here is how the six popular options compare on those points.
Quick comparison

How we compared
We looked at what matters before you upload anything:
- What you can do for free and whether you need an account or a card.
- What one song costs once the free part runs out. We used a 4-minute song because it is a typical length.
- How many parts you can split a song into, not only vocals and music.
- What you can download: format and quality.
- Where it runs: in a browser, in an app, or on your own computer.
Separation quality is the thing everyone wants to know, and it varies by song. All six use modern AI separation models. Our plan is to run the same set of freely licensed songs through each tool and publish the files, so you can hear them yourself rather than take anyone's word for it.
Unmix Studio
Best for: splitting a song into many instruments without a subscription.
Unmix Studio is a browser tool. Upload a song and it splits into six parts: vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and everything else. Each part can be split again: drums into kick, snare, hi-hat, toms and cymbals; vocals into lead and backing; guitar into acoustic and electric. The Every Instrument Splitter looks for up to about 50 kinds of instruments. There are also single-instrument pages, like the Vocal Remover and Drum Remover.
- Price: 1 credit per minute on most tools. Packs are one-time purchases from $7.49 for 100 credits, and credits never expire. A 4-minute song costs about $0.30, or $0.23 with the largest pack. The two Best Quality splitters cost more (4 and 6 credits a minute). Details are on the pricing page.
- Free: 5 credits when you sign in with Google, no card.
- Where it loses: downloads are MP3 at 320 kbps only, with no WAV yet. You must sign in before splitting. Songs can be up to 10 minutes long.
LALAL.AI
Best for: heavy users and producers who want a plugin and a desktop app.
LALAL.AI is one of the best-known names in stem splitting. It separates vocals, drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitar, piano, synth, strings and wind, and also has voice cleaning tools.
- Price: Lite is $9.99 a month and Pro $19.99 a month on monthly billing, cheaper yearly. Both include unlimited minutes in a slower queue plus a monthly allowance in the fast queue. One-time minute packs start at a 750-minute pack.
- Free: 10 minutes, but on the free plan you get previews; downloading results needs a paid plan.
- Where it wins: a VST plugin and local processing in the desktop app on Pro, batch processing, 2 GB uploads on paid plans, and an API. On its current 750-minute pack sale, the price per minute is a little lower than our smallest pack.
Moises
Best for: musicians who practise along with songs.
Moises is a practice app as much as a splitter. Alongside stem separation you get a pitch and tempo changer, chord detection, a metronome and mobile apps.
- Price: Premium is $5.99 a month and Pro $29.99 a month, with yearly plans about 30% cheaper. Paid plans include unlimited separations.
- Free: 5 separations a month.
- Where it wins: if you split many songs every month, a subscription with unlimited separations can work out cheaper than paying per song. Phone apps, practice tools, and WAV and lossless exports on Pro. Drum parts are on Pro.
VocalRemover.org
Best for: a quick, free vocal removal with nothing to sign up for.
VocalRemover.org is a free website. Pick a song and you get a karaoke version and an acapella. Its Splitter AI page splits music into vocals, bass, drums and the rest, with an option to add guitar.
- Price: free. A newer version with better algorithms is for subscribers.
- Where it wins: no account and no cost for the basic tools. It also has a pitch changer, key and BPM finder, cutter and joiner.
- Where it loses: fewer stems than the paid tools, and no further splitting of a part.
StemSplit
Best for: paying per minute and downloading WAV or FLAC.
StemSplit is a browser tool with pay-as-you-go minute packs, like us.
- Price: $2 for 10 minutes up to $30 for 300 minutes ($0.20 down to $0.10 a minute). Credits never expire.
- Free: 5 minutes on sign-up, no card. Processing can start before you sign up.
- Where it wins: WAV and FLAC downloads, YouTube and SoundCloud links, DJ features (key, BPM, Rekordbox export) and an API.
- Where it loses: up to 6 stems, and a higher price per minute than our packs.
Ultimate Vocal Remover (UVR)
Best for: people comfortable installing software who want it free and offline.
UVR is a free, open-source desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux. You download models and run them on your own computer.
- Price: free.
- Where it wins: no account, no limits, your audio never leaves your computer, and a wide choice of models.
- Where it loses: you have to install it and choose models yourself, and speed depends on your computer's hardware.
Which one should you use?
- Free, one song, no account: VocalRemover.org, or UVR if you don't mind installing software.
- Practising your instrument: Moises.
- WAV or FLAC files, paying per minute: StemSplit.
- Lots of songs every month, or a DAW plugin: LALAL.AI or a Moises subscription.
- Drums, guitar, piano or dozens of instruments on their own, without a subscription: Unmix Studio.
