How to remove noise from a vocal

  1. Upload the vocal. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. You sign in with Google the first time.
  2. Press Remove the noise. The button shows the price first: 1 credit for every minute. New accounts start with 5 credits. Most files take 1 to 3 minutes.
  3. Listen, then download. You get Clean vocal and Noise only. Click a reel to hear one alone. Each downloads as an MP3 at 320 kbps. Failed jobs are refunded.

What this tool is for

This page cleans noise off a voice. Upload a vocal, an acapella or a voice recording, and the output is the vocal with the noise reduced, plus the noise that was taken away. It is a clean-up tool for vocals, not a general fix for any recording. If you upload a full song with instruments, it is not the right page. Take the voice out first with the Acapella Extractor.

Hearing the Noise only file is a useful check. If you hear pieces of the voice in it, the tool took too much and the cleaned file may sound thin.

Who uses it

Home recording singers with a fan, a computer hum or a hissy microphone in the take. Podcasters and voice-over artists who recorded in a room that was not quiet. Producers who pulled an acapella out of a song and want the leftover grit removed before they sample it. Cover artists tidying a vocal before mixing.

What works well, and what leaves traces

Steady noise such as hiss, hum or a constant hiss from a cheap mic is the easiest kind to remove. Noise that changes, like someone talking in the next room, a passing car or a dog, is harder. Very loud noise right on top of a quiet voice can take some of the voice with it, so it may sound slightly dull or watery. Breaths and soft consonants are the parts most likely to be affected.

If the problem is room echo rather than noise, use the Reverb Remover. If the vocal was made by phase-cancelling, see Clean Up Inverted Vocals. For breaths specifically, there is the Breath Extractor.

FAQ

No. It is meant for vocals. Use it on a voice or an acapella.

How much does it cost?

1 credit for every minute, shown on the button before you start. New accounts get 5 credits.

Can it remove all the noise?

Not always. Steady noise comes out best. Changing noise and loud noise can leave traces or affect the voice.

What formats can I use?

Upload MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 10 minutes. Clean vocal and Noise only each download as a 320 kbps MP3.
