How to remove effects from a vocal
- Upload the vocal. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. Sign in with Google the first time.
- Press Remove the vocal effects. The button shows the price before it runs: 1 credit for every minute. New accounts start with 5 credits. Most files take 1 to 3 minutes.
- Listen, then download. You get the cleaned vocal back. Click a reel to hear it, and download each file as an MP3 at 320 kbps. If it fails, your credits are returned.
What it does
Vocals on finished records are rarely bare. They carry reverb, delay, echo, doubling and other processing that is baked into the audio. This tool tries to recover a drier lead voice from that processed sound, the way the singer might have sounded in the booth before the effects were added.
It works on a vocal. If you only have the full song, get the voice out first with the Acapella Extractor, then upload that file here.
Who uses it
Producers and remixers who want to put a new reverb on an acapella without hearing the old one underneath. Singers and engineers who are studying how a vocal was recorded. Cover artists who want a flatter, more neutral vocal to learn from. Sample makers who need a vocal that will fit a new room.
What works well, and what leaves traces
Light to moderate reverb and delay come out well. Heavy, long effects are harder, because the tail of one word runs into the next and some of it may stay. Effects that change the sound of the voice itself, such as pitch correction, distortion or a vocoder, are not the same thing as reverb, and the model cannot undo them. Expect the result to sound drier and a little less "finished", not like a raw studio take.
If your main trouble is only the room sound, the Reverb Remover is a closer match. If your vocal has noise, use the Vocal Noise Remover.
