The trumpet in a song
The trumpet usually carries the top line of the brass: the stabs in a ska or funk chorus, the fanfare at the start of a film cue, the muted solo in a jazz tune, or the mariachi lead. It sits high and cuts through, which helps a separation model find it.
Trumpet students use the Trumpet file to hear articulation, breath and phrasing without the band on top. Arrangers lift a line to see how a section is voiced. Producers use Without the trumpet when they want to write a new horn part or put another instrument in that spot.
What it gets mixed up with
A trumpet and a flugelhorn-type brass voice are close in tone, and a trumpet with a mute can sound thin like a sax. In a full horn section, trumpets and trombones play the same rhythm at different heights, so some of the trombone may come with the trumpet. If you hear that, use the Trombone Extractor or the Brass Extractor to compare. A sax in the same line may be heard as well; see the Saxophone Extractor.
Songs that work best
A solo trumpet over a rhythm section is the easy case. Big band tutti, where five trumpets play in harmony, is harder, and so is a trumpet buried in a loud guitar mix.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract a trumpet?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits. If the job fails, you get the credits back.
Can I get all the horns instead?
Yes. The Brass Extractor and the Wind Instrument Extractor give the whole line.
Will a muted trumpet be found?
Often, but muted and very soft playing is harder and may leave parts in the other file.
What file formats do you support?
