What counts as a wind instrument
Wind is the wide category: the brass section, the woodwinds, and any other horn or pipe that is played by blowing. In a pop or funk track that usually means the horn section. In a film score it can mean the whole upper half of the orchestra. In a folk record it may be a lone whistle or flute.
Use this page when you want all of it at once. A horn arranger can check how the section sits against the rhythm. A producer can strip the horns to make a lean version of a track. A singer can take the horns out and perform over the band.
When to pick a narrower page
If you know the part you want, a single-instrument page is more precise. Use the Brass Extractor for trumpets, trombones and horns together, the Woodwind Extractor for flutes, clarinets and reeds, or go straight to the Saxophone Extractor or Flute Extractor. If you cannot tell which instrument is playing, start here, listen to the file, and then narrow down.
If you want the horns, the strings, the drums and more as separate tracks, the Every Instrument Splitter lists wind on its own line among many, and the 7-Stem Splitter has a Wind track too.
What may be left over
Horns playing the same notes as a keyboard or a guitar solo can blur together. Tight arrangements where trumpets, saxes and a trombone play in unison are hard to pull apart from synth brass. Open both files with headphones before you rely on them.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract wind instruments?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits, enough for a song up to 5 minutes. A failed job is refunded.
Will synth brass count as a wind instrument?
It can. Synth brass imitates horns closely, so some may land in the Wind instruments file. Check it by ear.
Is the result completely clean?
No. The model is good, but dense mixes, live recordings and heavy reverb can leave some bleed in both files.
What file formats can I upload and download?
Upload an MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 10 minutes. Each result downloads as an MP3 at 320 kbps.
