How to remove the keyboards from a song

  1. Upload the song. MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, up to 10 minutes. Sign in with Google the first time.
  2. Press Extract the keyboards. The button shows the price before it runs: 1 credit per minute of the song. New accounts get 5 credits.
  3. Listen and download. Two reels appear, Keyboards and Without keyboards. Click one to hear it alone and download it as an MP3 at 320 kbps.

If processing fails, your credits are returned.

One file for all the keys

Keyboard is a family, not a single sound. In a pop or rock song the keys might be piano, a Rhodes, an organ, a synth pad and a string-style patch, all played by one person. This page treats them together: the Keyboards file holds the keys parts, and Without keyboards holds the rest of the song.

That is the right choice when you do not care which keyboard it is, only that the keys are out of the way, or on their own.

When to use it

  • Playing keys yourself. Take out the original keyboards and play your own over the band.
  • Learning a keys part. Hear the whole keyboard arrangement without drums and guitar in the way.
  • Sampling. Grab chords or a pad from an old record.
  • Video and podcasts. Pull the keyboards out when they fight with talking.
  • Mixing and teaching. Listen to how much the keys really do in a track.

Pick a narrower page when you can

If you know the instrument, a specific page can be more precise:

If you want drums, bass, vocals and the rest too, the stem splitter on the home page gives you more files from one upload.

What can go wrong

Keys fill the same frequencies as guitars, strings and vocals, so there is overlap. Synth pads and string patches can end up on either side. A clean piano ballad separates well, and a dense production with layered synths gives more leftovers. To get notes from the Keyboards file, use Audio to MIDI with Piano / keys.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before you run it. New accounts start with 5 credits.

Which instruments count as keyboards?

Piano, electric piano, organ, synth and similar keys parts. Which ones are picked up depends on the song and on how they are mixed.

Will it be perfectly clean?

No. Overlapping instruments and live recordings leave some residue in both files.

What files do I get?

Two MP3 files at 320 kbps, downloaded separately.
