Where you hear an accordion
The accordion is a reed instrument: air from the bellows moves across metal reeds, and the player works a keyboard or buttons with the other hand. It holds long chords and also plays quick melodies, and the sound has a wheezy, reedy warmth. You hear it in French musette and chanson, Irish and Scottish folk, polka, Cajun and zydeco, Mexican norteno and cumbia, Argentine tango, Balkan and klezmer music, and in plenty of pop and folk-rock songs where a band wants a touch of street-corner color.
Why pull it out
- Learners. Accordion players can hear the melody and the bass-and-chord pattern without a fiddle, guitar or drums covering it.
- Samples. A short accordion phrase has a very recognizable tone for a beat or a film cue.
- Cover bands and busk sets. Take the accordion out and play it live.
- Video work. Lower or drop the accordion under a voiceover.
For the written notes, send the Accordion file to Audio to MIDI and pick Piano / keys. Accordions play chords and melody together, so the MIDI will need some tidying.
What it gets confused with
A reedy, sustained tone looks like other sounds to a model:
- Organ, which also holds chords. See the Organ Extractor.
- Harmonica and bagpipes, which are also reed instruments.
- Violin or fiddle in folk songs when the two double the same tune.
- Synth pads with a reed-like patch.
If you want to remove every keys part at once, see the Keyboard Extractor. For a very bright plucked keyboard, there is also the Harpsichord Extractor.
FAQ
How much does it cost?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits.
Does it work on folk and live recordings?
You can upload them. Close-mic studio recordings give the cleanest result, and live sessions with several instruments in one room leave more leftovers.
Will it be perfectly clean?
No. A busy, tightly mixed song can leave some accordion in Without the accordion, or other sounds in Accordion.
What formats can I use?
Upload MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 10 minutes. Each result downloads as its own MP3 at 320 kbps.
