Electric piano, digital piano
The button says electric piano and the reel says Digital piano. They point at the same family of sounds: keyboards that are not a plain acoustic piano. That means stage pianos, home digital pianos, and the soft, bell-like electric piano tones you hear in soul, pop ballads, R&B, smooth jazz and lo-fi. If the piano in your song is a real acoustic one, use the Piano Extractor.
What it does in a song
A digital or electric piano usually plays chords under a vocal or a groove. It is warmer and rounder than a grand piano and cuts through less, so producers lean on it for pads, comping and slow ballad accompaniment. Some pop songs use a digital piano preset for the whole intro.
People extract it to:
- Learn the voicings. Hear the chord shapes without the guitar and bass on top.
- Sample a chord progression for a beat or a loop.
- Make a play-along track by removing it and playing your own keys.
- Mix the piano down or out when it competes with a voice in a video.
What it gets confused with
Electric pianos share a lot of ground with other keys. A Fender Rhodes has its own tone, and has its own page, the Rhodes Extractor. An organ holds long chords that can blur into a pad, so check the Organ Extractor if the sound is sustained and breathy. Acoustic piano and synth pads can also leak across. If you just want any keyboard, the Keyboard Extractor catches them all in one file.
Once you have the Digital piano file, you can take it to Audio to MIDI with Piano / keys selected to get the chords as notes.
FAQ
How much does it cost?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits.
Will it separate an acoustic piano?
This tool is tuned for electric and digital piano sounds. For a standard acoustic piano use the Piano Extractor.
Why is some of the sound in the wrong file?
Rhodes, organ and synth sounds are close to each other, and a tight mix can make them blur. Check with headphones.
What files do I get?
Two MP3 files at 320 kbps, downloaded one by one.
