The cello in a song
The cello covers a wide range. It can sing a melody in its upper register, play a rich, sustained line in the middle, or sit low and support the harmony like a bass. You hear it in film and game scores, in indie and chamber pop, in rock bands that add a cellist, in folk records and in classical works. Cello hooks are a staple of dramatic and emotional tracks.
Who wants it on its own
- Cellists learning a part by ear, or checking a fingering and phrasing.
- Film composers and arrangers studying how a cello line supports the other strings.
- Sample makers who want a clean, bowed low-register phrase.
- Singers who want to perform with the other instruments but sing against the cello line or without it.
What it can be mixed up with
In the low register a cello can overlap with a double bass, a bass guitar and a deep male voice. If the Cello file seems to hold more bass than you expect, check it against the Double Bass Extractor, and for electric bass use the Bass Remover. Violas sit just above the cello; see the Viola Extractor. The Bowed Strings Extractor takes the whole section, and the Violin Extractor handles the top line.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract a cello?
1 credit per minute, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits.
Will bass guitar end up in the cello file?
It can, mostly when both play low notes at the same time. A good quality recording keeps them apart more cleanly.
Is the cello file clean?
Not always. Live recordings, heavy reverb and dense arrangements can leave bleed.
What file formats can I use?
Upload MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC. Each result downloads as an MP3 at 320 kbps.
