To remove drums from a song, upload it to an AI drum remover and download the version without drums. Our Drum Remover gives you two files: Without the drums and Drums only. In our test, a 3 minute 22 second song took 88 seconds.
Drummers use the drumless file as a practice track: the band plays, and you fill the empty drum chair. Here is how to make one and get the most out of it.
Playing along with the full song is fun, but you can't hear yourself well. The record's drummer covers every hit. You don't notice if you rush a fill or drop a beat.
With the drums gone, every mistake is clear. You lock in with the bass and guitar, the way you would with a real band.
- Open the Drum Remover and sign in with Google. New accounts get 5 free credits, enough for 5 minutes of audio.
- Upload an MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC file, up to 10 minutes.
- Press Remove the drums. The price shows on the button first: 1 credit per minute of song.
- Wait a minute or two. Two reels appear.
- Click Without the drums to hear the drumless mix.
- Download it as an MP3 at 320 kbps. Download Drums only too, for studying.
The splitting runs in the cloud. There is nothing to install.
Having both files is what makes this useful. Try this routine:
- Listen to Drums only. Hear the groove and the fills without the band in the way.
- Write down the parts. If you read notation, our guide on how to read drum sheet music helps.
- Play along with the full song, slowly, to learn the form.
- Switch to Without the drums. Now you are the drummer.
- Record yourself over the drumless track and listen back.
Load the files into a DAW or a player with a speed control. Many can slow down without changing pitch. Practice slow, then bring it up to speed.
Some grooves are busy. The hi-hat pattern hides under the snare, and the kick does something tricky.
The Drum Kit Splitter breaks the drums into kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, ride and crash, each on its own row. Solo the kick to hear the foot pattern. Solo the hi-hat to count the subdivisions.
You may hear a faint snare or cymbal in the drumless file at loud moments. There are a few reasons:
- Cymbals share the high range with vocals and guitars, so the model keeps some in the mix.
- Room sound. The echo of the drums is spread across everything.
- Live recordings have drums leaking into every microphone.
For practice it rarely matters. Your own playing covers small traces. Clean studio songs give the cleanest results.
- Drum covers for video, with your playing over the band.
- Drum teachers making play-along files for students.
- Producers replacing the drums with a new beat.
If you want to break the whole song into parts, drums included, use the stem splitter. It gives six parts: vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and the rest.
Practice and lessons with any song are fine. Posting a cover with the original band audio may need permission, depending on the platform and the song.
The Drum Remover costs 1 credit per minute of song. After the 5 free credits, credit packs start at $2.99 for 30 credits, and a 4-minute song is about $0.30 on the $7.49 pack of 100. Credits never expire. If a job fails, the credits come back.
A few small changes make practice much better:
- Add a count-in. Place a few clicks before the song starts in your DAW, or trim the intro so the band comes in right away.
- Loop the hard part. Cut a section with a tricky fill and loop it until it feels easy.
- Balance your monitoring. Play the track through headphones at a level where you hear both the band and your kit. Protect your hearing; drums are loud.
- Keep the Drums only file nearby. When a section feels wrong, switch back and listen to what the original drummer played.
- Practice at three speeds. Slow for accuracy, medium for flow, full speed for feel.
Drummers who record themselves over a drumless track often notice that they speed up in fills. Hearing the band without the original drums makes this obvious, and it is easy to fix once you hear it.
Upload it to the Drum Remover, press Remove the drums, and download the Without the drums file.
Yes. You get two files: Without the drums and Drums only.
Cymbals share frequencies with other instruments, and room echo spreads everywhere. A faint trace can stay on loud songs or live recordings.
