The short version: LALAL.AI is the better choice if you split songs every day, want a plugin inside your DAW, or need an app on your phone or desktop. Unmix Studio is the better choice if you split songs now and then and would rather pay once for a pack of credits than every month.

Where LALAL.AI is better

  • Plugin and apps. The VST plugin lets you split inside your DAW. There are also desktop apps and mobile apps. We are browser only.
  • Local processing. On Pro, the desktop app can work on your own computer. We process in the cloud.
  • High volume. If you split dozens of songs a month, a subscription with a monthly allowance can cost less per song than packs.
  • Big files and API. Paid plans take uploads up to 2 GB and include an API. We have no API.

Where Unmix Studio is better

  • No monthly bill. You buy credits when you need them and they stay in your account.
  • Free results you can keep. The 5 starter credits cover a song up to 5 minutes, and you can download the full files, not a preview. That makes it easy to test on your own track.
  • Price shown before you press go. The button says what the song will cost.
  • One cost per song. Most tools cost 1 credit per minute of song, whichever parts you want back. On LALAL.AI the minutes are multiplied by the number of stem types you pick, so asking for several parts costs more.
  • Rare instruments and drum pieces. Beyond the six-stem split there are more than 100 single-instrument extractors, from cello to marimba to pedal steel. The drum kit splitter gives kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, ride and crash as separate files.
  • Practice tools in the studio player. Change the speed without changing the pitch and loop a section, so you can learn a hard bar. There is also a free BPM finder and key finder in the browser.

How to switch from LALAL.AI to Unmix Studio

  1. Open the stem splitter and sign in with Google. You get 5 credits, no card needed.
  2. Pick MP3 or WAV for the download format, then drop in your file. It can be an MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC, or an MP4 or MOV video.
  3. Press the orange key. The price shows on it before anything runs. Most songs take one to three minutes.
  4. Listen to each part on its own reel, mute any you do not want, and download the rest.
  5. Drag the files into your DAW.

If you only need one job done, go straight to the page for it: vocal remover, drum remover, guitar remover or every instrument splitter.

A note on sound quality

Both services use AI models, and quality depends mostly on the song. Clean studio recordings split well. Dense mixes, live recordings and heavy reverb leave traces of one part in another, in any tool. We do not claim ours sounds better. Run the same song through both, match the volume, and listen on headphones.

FAQ

Is there a free LALAL.AI alternative?

Unmix Studio gives 5 credits when you sign in with Google, enough for a song up to 5 minutes, and the downloads are the full files. After that you buy credits. If you want a tool that never charges, we are not it.

Is Unmix Studio a subscription like LALAL.AI?

No. Credits come in one-time packs and never expire. See the pricing page for the current packs.

Does Unmix Studio have a plugin or desktop app?

No. It runs in your browser. You download the files and drag them into any DAW. If you need a VST plugin, LALAL.AI has one on its Pro plan.

Which is cheaper for one song?

For a single 4-minute song, a pack of credits works out to about 30 cents on most of our tools. LALAL.AI sells plans and top-ups, so one song paid for on its own usually costs more there. For heavy monthly use, compare the numbers yourself.

Can I get a refund?

On Unmix Studio, unused credits can be refunded in proportion within 30 days of buying, and a failed split gives its credits back automatically. LALAL.AI's pricing page says subscriptions are non-refundable.

Does Unmix Studio accept video files?

Yes. Upload an MP4 or MOV file and the audio is taken out in your browser, then split. LALAL.AI also takes video.

Can I download WAV?

Yes. Choose WAV (lossless, 16-bit) before you start the split, or keep the default MP3 at 320 kbps.
