What lead and rhythm mean here
Rhythm guitar plays the chords and the groove underneath: strumming, power chords, chopped patterns. Lead guitar plays the line on top: the melody, a solo, a fill, a riff that people hum. The split follows that role, not the person holding the guitar. If one player does both, you may hear them move between the two files.
The four files cover what you are likely to want:
- Lead guitar. The solo or melody line, for learning licks.
- Rhythm guitar. The chord part, for working out the progression and strumming.
- All guitars. Both together, in one file.
- Without guitars. The rest of the band, for playing along.
Who uses it
Guitarists learning a solo and wanting it without the chords crashing around it. Players in two-guitar bands who need to know which part is theirs. Teachers making examples. Producers who want to turn the lead down or swap it for a new take.
What can go wrong
Twin guitars playing the same line in harmony are hard to tell apart, since both are lead. A single guitar with a big solo over its own chords is the clearest case. Layered rhythm parts with heavy distortion bleed into the lead file, and the other way round. Songs with a keyboard playing a lead line can also confuse it.
For all guitars versus none, use the Guitar Remover. For a particular tone, use the Electric Guitar Extractor or the Acoustic Guitar Extractor. To get the lead line as notes, take Lead guitar to Audio to MIDI.
FAQ
How much does it cost?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts start with 5 credits.
Is the split by guitar player?
No. It follows the role: the line that plays the melody or solo versus the part that plays the chords and rhythm.
Why is a part in the wrong file?
Harmony lines, layered guitars and heavy distortion are hard. Treat the result as a very good starting point and check with headphones.
What files do I get?
Four MP3 files at 320 kbps: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, All guitars and Without guitars.
