Where the acoustic guitar shows up
Strummed acoustic guitar is the backbone of a lot of folk, country, singer-songwriter and pop songs. It plays the chords, keeps the rhythm and often leaves space for a vocal. Fingerpicked parts carry melody and bass notes at once, which is why they are so tempting to learn.
People pull it out for a few reasons:
- Learning a part. Hear the strumming pattern or the picking without a drum kit on top.
- Sampling. A clean-sounding loop of strumming is a handy thing to build a beat on.
- Covers. Take away the original guitar and play your own over the rest of the band.
- Video work. Pull the guitar down or out so it does not fight a voiceover.
What it gets confused with
Acoustic guitar is the instrument this tool is looking for, and that is a narrower job than finding every guitar. A few sounds can be mistaken for it:
- Electric guitar played clean. A clean, jangly electric can sit close to an acoustic in tone. If the song has both, check Without the acoustic guitar for leftovers.
- Mandolin, ukulele and banjo. They are plucked or strummed strings in a similar range. A little can slip across.
- Piano and keys. Sustained chords from a piano can blur with strumming.
If the song is mostly electric, use the Electric Guitar Extractor. If you want every guitar in one file, the Guitar Remover does that. To split a lead line from rhythm playing, try the Lead and Rhythm Guitar Splitter.
Turn the part into notes
Once you have the Acoustic guitar file, you can take it to Audio to MIDI, choose Guitar, and get a MIDI file of the chords and notes. The conversion runs in your browser.
FAQ
How much does it cost to extract an acoustic guitar?
1 credit for every minute of the song, shown on the button before it runs. New accounts get 5 credits, enough for one song up to 5 minutes.
Will the electric guitar end up in the file too?
The tool looks for acoustic guitar, so electric parts should mostly stay in Without the acoustic guitar. A clean electric tone can leak across a bit.
Will it be completely clean?
No. A very good model still leaves some residue when the mix is tight, the recording is live or there is a lot of reverb. Listen with headphones.
What files do I get?
Two MP3 files at 320 kbps, Acoustic guitar and Without the acoustic guitar, each downloaded separately.
